What is a connected home and how is it beneficial?

The term "Connected Home" is vague to most people. For the most part, a connected home just means that several devices in your home are connected to the internet in some fashion and can be controlled remotely. But what devices can you control online? What advantages do you obtain from this technology? Would it be beneficial for your lifestyle? These are questions that will be answered in this month's newsletter.

Different devices can be controlled in a connected home over the internet. Devices like your security system, lighting system, thermostat, whole house music, home theater, pool, spa, and even your window blinds are just some of the controlled systems. Many of these show up on a page like this on a Windows Media Center PC. It gives you a visual control center that will allow you to arm or disarm your alarm, or even turn on and off your lights around your house. It also gives you feedback for most devices, showing you what the current temperature in your house is or if a light was left on. All of these features are great, but how do they apply to you?

One of the main benefits of having a connected home is the ability to remotely view cameras and your security system from anywhere in the world. When your children get home from school, you can have your alarm system send you an email message or a text message to your phone. If you have cameras in your home, you can check up on the babysitter at any time. You can call ahead to your house and open your garage door. You can turn on and off your sprinkler system. The possibilites are nearly endless.

All of the functions talked about in this newsletter and more are readily available at Sound Electronic Solutions. They also take care of central vaccum systems, intercom systems, and phone systems. Many of the systems talked about are focused around security and entertainment.
