What is the best way to back up my files?

Most people don't know that they are in any danger of losing their files.  Most people never realize that all of their memories can disappear in an instant.  In most cases, when a computer goes bad, you can still retrieve the files that were on it.  Pictures, movies, songs, documents, emails.  These are all important items that we treasure.  So how does the average person make sure that they don't lose any of these treasures?

Some people will recognize this as an external hard drive.  More accurately, this is a USB external hard drive.  They sometimes come with free software that allows you to pick what files to back up to your drive.  Many of them also help guide you so that you don't have to find all of your files, it will do it for you.  Along with USB hard drives, there are also Firewire drives.  These drives usually can be kept plugged into the computer and used as extra storage and are a higher speed than USB technically speaking.  Many computers now have Firewire connections on the computer, allowing you to take advantage of this technology.

This is an example of an online backup service.  After installing this program, all you have to do it right click on a file and Back this up as it shows.  The only trouble with this is that you have to right click on the file or folder you want backed up.  So, for example, if you don't know where your Outlook file is, you can't back it up.  Otherwise, it will back up whenever you tell it to, and it will keep it all online for as long as that service exists.  There is a yearly fee, however.

There is another form of backup not mentioned, it is called Network Attached Storage.  It connects to your router on your network and can back up all computers on your network.  This form of backup is just like having an external hard drive connected to your computer.  Many of these drives come with software that will automatically backup any files you want automatically.  Personally, I would go with this form of backup because of the ease of use and versatility.
