How do I get rid of unnecessary programs? When you buy a new computer, you get free software with it. You didn't ask for it, it's just there. Much of the software is pointless and unnecessary. That's why it has been deemed bloatware. Your new computer will also have a lot of programs starting up with your computer. These headaches can be solved either manually, or automatically.
PC Decrapifier is a program that allows you to uninstall many of the bloatware that is loaded on your computer. It removes a list of items that can be found here. You can keep any of these programs by just unchecking them from the list. The manual way of doing this process is to go to the control panel, open Add/Remove Programs in XP or Programs and Features in Vista. Then you click on what you want to uninstall and remove it. This program just allows you to clear up all of the programs that you wouldn't normally use like toolbars in internet explorer, etc.
Strun is a small program that allows you to change what programs automatically start up with your computer. You can download this program here. You can do this manually by clicking on the start button, Run, then typing in msconfig and clicking OK. Otherwise, this program shows you what programs are starting up with your computer, who the manufacturer is, and where it is located on your computer. You simply click on the item and delete it. These programs are just 2 of the many applications out there to help speed up your computer by getting rid of junk. Be wary of any program that you use to do anything to your computer. Read all pages carefully and make sure you understand what it does before you use it. If you ever have any questions, simply call us at RentOurGeeks. 866-999-GEEK (4335). |
